Articulated Lorry Case
A woman who had broke down on a busy road was forced to walk from her
car in order to try to get some assistance. She did not notice that an
articulated lorry was coming and so it had knocked her over. The woman
was badly injured and sustained fractures throughout her body. She also
sustained a complete tear to her brachial plexus which is the network
of nerves connecting the arm to the trunk and the spine. As a result,
she lost her right arm. She was awarded the better part of £20,000
which in fact greater than the sum she would have recovered in earnings
had the accident not occurred. Third party insurers were also persuaded
to make an interim payment of £50,000.
