VEHICLE COLLISION: Woman Killed in Highway 101 Car Accident
June 7, 2011
Bay City – A 20-year-old female driver was killed in a vehicle collision on Highway 101 in Marin County early Tuesday morning, the California Highway Patrol said.
According to reports, Kimberly Augusto, of Petaluma, was driving her 2000 Nissan Altima along Highway 101 near San Antonio Road when it swerved and struck the road’s guardrail.
The Nissan did not have any warning lights or signals for approaching vehicles.
Moments later, a 2008 Ford E-350, moving at about 65-70 mph, smashed into the driver’s side of Augusto’s car. She was killed instantly by the impact.
Raymond Freeman, the vehicle’s 46-year-old driver, said he noticed the stalled Nissan and tried to avoid it, but failed to do so. Three passengers aboard the Ford suffered minor injuries, while Freeman was unharmed.
Authorities temporarily closed several lanes of the highway while investigation was taking place.
