VEHICLE ACCIDENT: Two Killed, Three Injured for not Wearing Seatbelts in Palmdale Accident
December 20, 2010
Palmdale – At least two people were killed and three others were injured in an accident near Palmdale Sunday afternoon, the California Highway Patrol said.
According to reports, a northbound 1991 Mercedes driven by a 35-year-old Palmdale man was speeding along Sierra Highway when it veered to the southbound lanes into the path of an approaching 1993 Chevrolet pick-up.
The pick-up broadsided the Mercedes killing the Palmdale driver and the 26-year-old female passenger. A 4-year-old girl on the backseat of the Mercedes was ejected from the vehicle and sustained minor injuries.
Occupants of the pick-up, 38-year-old Miguel Lugo of Lancaster and 26-year-old Erika Espitia of Palmdale, were hospitalized with serious injuries.
No one was reportedly wearing their seatbelts when the accident occurred.
CHP has confirmed that weather was not a factor in the crash.
