Twin 2-Year-Old Girls Drowns in Family Pool
October 12, 2009
San Martin - Twin 2-year-old girls died after drowning in their family backyard pool in San Martin over the weekend, the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office announced recently.
The sheriff’s office received the call at around 4 p.m. Saturday, Sgt. Jim Cardenas said.
Deputies and paramedics proceeded to the home in the 3200 block of Paseo Vista Avenue and found the parents administering CPR to the twins who were found unresponsive in the family pool.
The twins were then brought to St. Louise Hospital, and then transferred by airlift to Stanford University.
One of the twins died on the way, while the other died at the hospital Sunday Morning, Sheriff’s deputies said.
The twins were identified as Annalise and Aspen Niva-Wiggle.
According to Lisa Niva, the twin’s mother, Annalise and Aspen somehow jiggled open the gate to the pool fence, fell in and drowned.
Their tea utensils were floating in the water while a yellow cup sat next to the pool.
The sheriff’s office did not release any more information as the investigation is still preliminary.
The fatalities are being investigated as “unattended deaths” until they are confirmed as accidental drowning, Detectives Sgt. Herman Leon and Sgt. Dean Baker said.
