Baldwin Park – An elderly man was killed Monday morning after a Metrolink train collided with a vehicle rested on the tracks, authorities said.
The crash occurred at around 9:30 am in the intersection of Garvey and Francisquito Avenues. The train, northbound Metrolink train 304, departed from Union Station in downtown Los Angeles and was headed for San Bernardino, according to Sherita Coffelt, spokeswoman for Metrolink.
Witnesses said that the car drove under the train crossing barrier, Lt. David Reynoso of the Baldwin Park police said.
Two of the 125 passengers aboard were transported to an area hospital. One complained of back injury while the other received medical attention regarding a pacemaker. No crew members were injured.
Passengers were transported in buses after the incident. Train 811 from San Bernardino was delayed for about 30 minutes because of the incident.
