Toyota Recalls 688,000 Cars in China
August 24, 2009
Carmaker giant Toyota Motor Co. announced a recall on its 688,000 cars in China due to a defect in the electric window system, according to the company spokeswoman.
In a statement, Toyota said the window’s electronic controls have excessive lubricants which may cause short circuits.
The company also said that the product recall, which is the biggest in its history in terms of the number of cars affected, covers Vios, Yaris, Corolla, and Camry which were manufactured in China between May 2006 and December 2008.
The Toyota spokeswoman said there is no reported injury caused by the defective auto part.
Last year, Toyota has toppled its US rival General Motors and became the top selling carmaker in the world. However, the company has laid off thousands of workers due to global recession which caused car sales to plummet.
