PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT: Sleeping SUV Driver Injures Mother and Son in Hayward
September 7, 2010
Hayward – A mother and her son were injured in a pedestrian accident in Hayward this afternoon.
The accident occurred at about 1:45 pm when a woman, who was driving an SUV along Drummond Drive, fell asleep behind the wheel.
As a result, the SUV struck a 53-year-old woman and her 22-year-old son as the driver unconsciously veered towards the east sidewalk of the road.
The SUV continued moving and struck two more trees and a mailbox before coming to rest.
The woman broke a leg while her son sustained abrasions and cuts after the crash.
The driver, on the other hand, does not seem to be injured from the incident.
The victims and the driver were all brought to Eden Medical Center.
The identities of the three were not released by authorities pending further investigation.
At present, it looks like alcohol and/or drugs were not a factor in the pedestrian accident.
No charges have been filed against the driver.
