CAR ACCIDENT: Sheriff Deputy and Teen collide head-on in Stevenson Ranch
June 15, 2010
Stevenson Ranch – A Santa Clara sheriff’s deputy and a Garden Grove teenager were involved in a head-on collision Tuesday morning.
Jessie Frutos, 17, was driving her 2005 Mercedes E-55 along the eastbound lane of Pico Canyon Road around 5 a.m. She was preparing to turn left onto Stevenson Ranch Parkway when the patrol car of Deputy Blake Carpenter, 24, approached the intersection of Stevenson Ranch from the westbound lane.
Frutos hit Carpenter head-on, according to the CHP. The sheriff added that Carpenter was on his way to respond to a non-emergency assistance call when the accident happened and was running at approximately 50-55 mph. Two other patrol units were traveling with him.
CHP and the LA County Fire Department responded to the scene. Both were taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital after suffering minor to moderate injuries. Carpenter will stay at the hospital for observation.
