PREMISES LIABILITY: Severed Toddler’s Fingertip in Escalator Accident can’t be reattached
April 12, 2011
Glendale – Doctors of Children's Hospital Los Angeles have determined that a 2-year-old’s fingertip that was severed after an escalator accident Saturday morning cannot be surgically re-attached, authorities said.
According to reports, firefighters searched for about 30 minutes for the fingertip that was found lodged at the bottom of escalator after they pulled it apart in hopes that it can still be reattached.
The accident occurred around 9:50 am in Glendale Galleria when the boy fell and his index finger got stuck at the bottom of the mall’s escalator near the food court.
Rescuers rushed the toddler to Children's Hospital Los Angeles where doctors said that it was not possible to re-attach the fingertip because of the injury’s severity.
Other details about the accident were not immediately released.
