Rear-end Collision Resulted to Shooting Incident
March 24, 2009
Los Angeles - Ramon Zepeda, an off-duty LA police officer was involved in a shooting incident last March 24, 2009 at around 8:30PM near East Lakeview Road and Kay Jane Lane. The incident happened after the other car rear-ended Zepeda’s car along Las Coches Road near Interstate 8.
According to Officer Karen Smith, Zepeda followed the Ford sedan being driven by the still unknown driver to get a license plate after it drove away towards a residential neighborhood.
The eight-year veteran said that he got off his car to speak to the other driver but the older Ford sedan drove towards him causing him to pull out his gun and open fire.
Zepeda recalled that he felt that the other driver was trying to run him over. He has been removed from “field duty” as standard procedure after a shooting while the case is being investigated.
Efforts to identify the other driver are still ongoing. Hospital reports show that no one has been admitted for gunshot wounds in the surrounding area.
It has not been determined if anybody was injured during the shooting.
