Police Nabbed Suspect in Hit-and-Run Incident Which Killed Student
April 4, 2009
Los Angeles - Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) arrested a woman believed to be involved in a hit-and-run incident which killed a college student and seriously hurt another.
Claudia Cabrera, 30, was arrested on Thursday night and charged with gross negligence resulting to homicide. Meanwhile, police are hunting down her husband Josue Luna, 31, who is considered an accessory to the crime.
Earlier report said that Luna allegedly came out of the car to remove one of the victims who has landed on the car’s hood.
Meanwhile, police said the couple was driving with their 7-month-old baby when Cabrera hit Adrianna Bachan, 18, and Marcus Garfinkle, 19, while the two were crossing on a street.
According to some witnesses, the car ran a red light and struck Bachan and Garfinkle.
After sustaining multiple injuries, Bachan died while Garfinkle, who was stuck on the car hood and stayed there for 300 or 400 feet before falling on the road, managed to survive and is now recuperating in a hospital with his two legs broken.
In a statement, police said Cabrera is probably driving under the influence of alcohol during the time of the incident. Her driver’s license is currently under suspension over failure to pay traffic violations.
Cabrera is now facing $1 million bail.
Earlier, authorities presented $235,000 reward money for anyone who will provide information that will lead to the arrest of the suspects.
Meanwhile, Bachan’s mother thanked the media for keeping the story alive which led to the arrest of one of the suspects involved in the incident which killed her daughter.
