Police Investigates Fatal Chopper Crash in Sierra Forest
January 5, 2010
Madera- Authorities are investigating a helicopter accident in Sierra National Forest that ended the lives of three biologists of the California Department of Fish and Games and may have killed the aircraft’s pilot as well.
Authorities were summoned after the crash that occurred south of Redinger Lake.
According to reports, the three male biologists were performing deer surveys along a wooded and remote area near both Madera and Fresno county line.
Police said the crash triggered a fire that made the area inaccessible. Fortunately, moisture and light winds along the site have slowed the fire’s progression.
Authorities are still trying to determine the cause of the crash.
