PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT: Pedestrian on Phone Run Over by Big Rig

Otay Mesa – A 31-year-old woman was hit and killed by a tractor-trailer as she stepped into traffic while talking on her phone Thursday night, authorities said.

Tijuana woman Alma Luz Alfaro Gonzales was reportedly heading to Siempre Viva Road from Paseo De Las America around 6 pm when a tractor trailer made a right turn at the exact moment that Gonzales started to cross the street.

The 37-year-old driver of the truck stopped and assisted Gonzales as they waited for paramedics to arrive. Gonzales died on the way to a hospital.

It was not immediately determined if Gonzales was walking against a red light. Authorities are still investigating the accident.
