Pedestrian Killed on Freeway
September 4, 2009
San Diego – Early Friday morning, an unidentified man was hit and killed while walking on the lanes of Interstate 8 in the College Area. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) officials, the victim was walking in the westbound lanes when a 2006 Hyundai Sonata struck him. CHP Officer Brad Baehr said that they don’t know why the man was on the freeway at that time.
The driver of the Hyundai told the police that the pedestrian appeared to be looking down at his cell phone but that he was unable to avoid him hitting him at the last moment.
The CHP said that the man was killed on impact and that he may have been struck by other vehicles as well.
According to investigators, the man might possibly be the owner of a vehicle which was found abandoned west of where the accident occurred.
