VEHICLE ACCIDENT: Multiple car crash in Phelan kills one, injures two
October 11, 2010
Phelan – One unidentified person died in a car accident on Highway 138 Monday morning when he was ejected out of his vehicle after sideswiping a pickup truck, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The unknown driver reached a blind curve in the roadway near Sayle Road and attempted to pass a slow-moving vehicle even if it was prohibited. He then moved into the westbound lane into the path of a Chevrolet Silverado pickup.
The driver of the pickup swerved but was still struck by the reckless driver of the Kia. It continued in the opposite lane and struck the Focus, causing both small cars to tumble into the desert. The driver of the Kia was ejected out of the vehicle and died on the scene.
Witnesses called 911 around 9:30 to report the accident. The vehicle was reportedly traveling east at about 100 miles per hour.
Rescuers sent the driver of the Focus to Loma Linda University Medical Center after suffering injuries of unknown extent. The driver of the pickup sustained minor injuries. The CHP is still determining the cause of the accident.
