August 24, 2011
Fremont- A man died after a 2004 Buick struck him while standing on the sidewalk at Washington Boulevard on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m.
According to reports, a 47-year-old San Ramon man was driving southbound on Interstate 680 when it crashed into another vehicle.
The man exchanged insurance information with the other driver, and both exited the highway. They stopped their cars along the curb of Washington Boulevard, and got out of the vehicles. An oncoming Buick travelled along the sidewalk and hit the San Ramon man causing him fatal injuries, reports said.
Reports said the Buick then crashed into the embankment and a tree, and its elderly driver sustained critical injuries. Rescuers arrived and transported him to a local hospital.
Authorities are still investigating the details on the cause of accident.
