BICYCLE ACCIDENT: LA City Officials Approve Bike Lane Proposal

March 1, 2011

Los Angeles - Los Angeles City officials has approved a bike lane project that seeks to protect cyclists from the hazard of car-densed roads.

The LA City officers were set to interconnect the 1,680-mile bikeways and construct additional bike paths every five years. The long-term plan aims to lessen the number of bicycle-car collisions in Los Angeles.

Former Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa was himself injured in a bike crash last year after being side struck by a taxi driver. He sustained fractured elbow injuries, and since then has become an active advocate for separate bike lanes.
