October 16, 2009
Fresno – A 42-year old man was killed while directing traffic in Auberry Street the other day. The man later identified as Khai Lee, came to the aid of another motorist when he was hit by another driver.
Reports said Lee and other Table Mountain employees had just gotten out of work when they saw one of their colleagues stalled in traffic. They all got off to help and Lee began directing traffic.
Witnesses said another car failed to slow down and struck Lee who was thrown off due to the impact. Police later reported that the driver of the car was an elderly woman who also works at Table Mountain.
Colleagues and other people of the community had expressed the loss of the Fresno Samaritan and offered their condolences and support to Lee’s wife and seven children.
Fresno man’s children will continue their father’s dream of living a better life in the US, said her wife yesterday. Khai Lee left his wife and seven children after he was killed in a traffic accident three days ago while he was assisting others.
“No one can fill his place in our family,” said Vang Lee, 22, the oldest child. Lee was directing traffic when all of a sudden a car ran into him at Auberry Road. He suffered injuries resulting to his death.
“He lived paycheck to paycheck but he always believed life would be better for us,” recalled Vang.
He was the all around man—fetching his kids from school and doing household chores. He also liked fishing and hunting. His children have promising future. His eldest is studying criminology at the California State University, Fresno. One of his daughters is taking up social work at Fresno State while the other daughter is taking up nursing.
Remembered by his virtues, Vang said they were pushed to “succeed, because he did not want [them] to live in poverty.” He was working at Table Mountain Casino for eight years. The company sent his family food and condolences. He was remembered by them as a charming man who lightens up other people every day.
