CAR CRASH: Fatality in Saturday I-80 Crash Investigated as Hit and Run
May 16, 2011
Sacramento – The death of a 19-year-old female driver in the I-80 crash Saturday is now being investigated as a case of hit-and-run, the California Highway Patrol said.
According to reports, the woman identified as Krystal Somer Sigler, of Sacramento, was killed after she was thrown from her vehicle in an accident before she was hit by an unidentified vehicle whose driver failed to yield and assist the victim.
Sigler was said to be driving a 2001 Mercury SUV with a female passenger around 2am when, for unknown reasons, she clipped a Toyota Tercel from another lane.
The impact caused both vehicles to spin out of control. The Toyota rested on a chain link fence. Both the driver and the passenger were uninjured.
The SUV that was driven by Sigler hit a median before it overturned. Both occupants were not wearing seatbelts and were thrown from the vehicle.
Sigler’s passenger sustained injuries including a broken back. Sigler was thrown in the opposite lane where she was hit by other vehicles. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver who initially hit her fled the scene and is yet to be apprehended.
