Fatal Motorcycle Accident Blocks Freeway
October, 19, 2009
Escondido - A fatal motorcycle accident that occurred on southbound Interstate 15 has blocked several lanes of the freeway.
According to authorities, the motorcyclist, who is in his 70s, was traveling along the fast lane of I-5 when traffic started to slow down. He was moving between 30 to 40 mph and applied on the vehicle’s brakes. However, he failed to stop in time.
Police said the motorcyclist’s 2002 Harley Davidson Road King struck the rear of a 2000 Chevy Suburban. The rider, who was wearing his helmet at that time, was thrown off from the motorcycle and sustained fatal injuries.
He died even before he could be brought to a hospital.
The Medical Examiner’s Office withheld the motorcyclist’s name pending family notification.
