RAILROAD ACCIDENT: Equestrian and Horse Killed on Metrolink Tracks
February 12, 2011
Sun Valley – The equestrian that was killed by a Metrolink train Friday afternoon has been identified Saturday as a Northern Hollywood resident, coroners said.
Reports said Jose Hidalgo, 35, was on his horse when the accident happened around 3 pm near the 9300 block of San Fernando Road, Erik Scott of the Los Angeles Fire Department said. He was trying to get the horse to move out of the tracks but it remained still.
The commuter train bore down on him, witnesses claimed. Hidalgo and the horse died immediately.
The train, an Antelope Valley Line train 216, was running at an unknown speed upon impact, according to Metrolink. Passengers of the train were transported by buses while the train was stopped.
