ELEVATOR ACCIDENT: Elevator mishap on probe

December 9, 2011

Long beach - Several days after a woman was killed in an elevator entrapment, state officials are investigating the real cause of the mishap.

The victim identified as Annette Lujan, 48, was reportedly riding in an elevator 9 a.m. on Wednesday in the Foundation Building at 6300 State University Drive when the elevator caught up amid the second and third storey.

According to the authorities, Lujan, who was assisted by a witness, tried to crawl out, but the elevator abruptly moved down and crushed her.

California State Long Beach spokeswoman Toni Beron stated that the California Occupational Safety Hazard Administration (Cal/OSHA) were on the accident site on Thursday to continue their investigation. The Department of Industrial Relations is also conducting analysis regarding the incident.

On the accident scene also are technicians from the Schindler Elevator Corporation which manufactured the elevator.
