TRAIN ACCIDENT: Eighty-year-old Kerman local dead after getting hit by train
May 14, 2010
Kerman – An 80-year-old man was killed when his car stopped at the tracks as the train approached Thursday morning.
The Ford Taurus of R.D. Martin, a Kerman resident, approached the tracks on Avenue 12 near Road 32, west of Madera Ranchos, around 10:30 a.m.
According to California Highway Patrol officer Joseph Miller, the sedan failed to stop on time, went through the railroad gate, and stopped on the tracks. The engine smashed on the car shortly.
Witnesses claimed that Martin tried to get out of the car, but it was all in vain. The train was running at about 60 mph.
