Dealing with Dog Attacks
According to a recent study, there were almost 5 million people were attacked by dogs every year and 1000 Americans per day are being treated in emergency rooms as a result of dog bites. In 2010, 34 fatal dog attacks were recorded. In a year, dog bite losses exceed $1 billion and over $300 million were paid by homeowners insurance.
Most of the victims of dog attacks who receive medical attention were children and half of them were bitten in the face. Statistics say that 61% of the attack happens at home or in the familiar place and less than four years old are the victims with 47% attacks were from the family dog.
Dog attacks sometimes depend on the breed of the dog. Here are some of the dog breeds known to have always been involved in an attack:
- Pit bulls
- Rottweilers
- German Shepherds
- Huskies
- Alaskan Malamutes
- Doberman Pinschers
- Chow chows
- Great Danes
- St. Bernards
- Akitas
However, their aggressiveness sometimes depends on their owners. That is why there are things that an owner or a trainer should keep in mind. Here are the following:
- Any dog which treated harshly or is trained to attack has a tendency to attack. Any dog can be turned into a dangerous dog. The owner or a trainer is often responsible if the dog did something dangerous.
- Avoid creating a situation that places another person in danger by a dog, without the dog being dangerous.
- An individual dog could be a good loving pet even though its breed is considered as a dangerous one. The owner must therefore earn the dog’s love and respect.
So if you are a victim of a dog attack and you got injured because of a friend’s dog, it is important to consult an attorney because the dog can be trained and can be stopped from being aggressive, only if the owner is responsible enough to take care of it.
