Crew Rescued in a Sinking Boat
June 30, 2009
Concord, California - US Coast Guard rescued 33 people, 27 of whom were sea scouts, off the coast of Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta as the water filled their boat by 8 inches, according to authorities.
In an interview with reporters, Coast Guard Petty Officer Levi Read said no one was injured in the incident, adding that they have successfully retrieved the boat and dragged this to the shore for repairs.
Read said the Coast Guard immediately sent boats and a helicopter after the crew sent a distress call on Tuesday before noon as the water was filling up their boat.
Read also said the crew was taken to Vallejo after the being rescued.
