DOG BITE: Census Employee to Undergo Surgery after Pit Bull Attack

May 20, 2010

Coalinga - A US Census employee will undergo surgery after being attacked by a pit bull while she was conducting interviews.

Reports stated that Wendy Soto, 38, was attacked by the dog right after she rang the doorbell of a house in the 200 block of Fresno Street.

The dog suddenly bolted from the house and bit the woman on her stomach, lower right leg, one finger, and the top of her left hand.

Reports said the pit bull’s owner stopped the attack by pulling the animal away from Soto.

The woman was rushed to Coalinga Regional Medical Center to receive treatment for her injuries.

Surgeons have not yet determined the extent of the damage she suffered due to the swelling around her injuries, said reports.

Authorities have no idea how the animal escaped from a security door, which was apparently closed at the time of the accident.

The pit bull was impounded and a hearing will be scheduled to determine whether it would be classified as a dangerous or vicious animal.
