CAR CRASH: Car smashes into tree, leaves one woman dead
September 21, 2010
Industry – One woman was killed, while two men were seriously injured, in an accident on the intersection of Pellissier Place and Peck Road Monday afternoon, authorities said.
The car reportedly crashed into a tree near Rio Hondo Community College at 3 pm. One of the men was driving the car and the woman was his mother. The two were apparently arguing, which caused the man to lose control of the vehicle, according to Investigator Michael Gonzales with Industry sheriff’s station.
The 2001 silver Nissan Altima hit the curb, went up into the tree, and got crumpled. Romina Polanco, 47, was pronounced dead at the scene. She was seated in the front passenger seat, and suffered massive internal injuries and full body trauma.
Her son suffered a broken pelvis, dislocated shoulder, and internal injuries. The other man seated at the back seat behind the driver also sustained internal injuries. Both were taken by helicopter to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center and are in critical but stable condition.
Gonzales said that there was no sign of braking before the collision, and that no charges will be brought against the driver. Fire Department officials added that the car was traveling at a high rate of speed prior to the collision. Peck Road, from Workman Mill Road to Pellissier Place, was closed to traffic in both directions while investigations went on.
