CPSC Warns on Window Shades that Caused Deaths
December 15, 2009
Washington – The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has cautioned consumers against using roll up blinds and Roman shades which can strangle or kill people. Nearly five deaths and 16 cases of strangulation have been reported since 2006, the agency announced.
Roll up blinds and shades were recalled because of its product defect that may result to strangle children. The cords of the blinds and shades can become entangle on children’s necks. The manufacturer has released free repair kits for the window products.
Due to this risk, Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has agreed to recall 50 million window blinds and shades. JC Penney, Ace Hardware Corp, Pottery Barn, West Welm, Big Lots and Land of Nod also pulled the products from their shelves.
