TRUCK ACCIDENT: Big Rig Spills Meat Cargo Loads in Roll-over Crash on H-138
March 22, 2011
Los Angeles - A tractor-trailer overturned and spilled 35,000 pounds of beef on State Highway 138 and Interstate 15 on Monday at 9 am.
The truck driver was traversing southbound Interstate 15 at 45mph when its brakes overheat. The driver attempted to pull over at Highway 138 exit, but the truck slid and drifted off the roadway, reports said.
According to Los Angeles police officers, the big rig hit the gutter and rolled over, spilling boxes of frozen beef on the lanes down the embankment. The driver was unhurt in the accident. Authorities closed Highway 138 and Interstate 15 for four hours to clear the area.
California Highway Patrol reported 85 vehicular crashes from 5 am till 12 noon on Monday. The series of automobile crashes were attributed to the recent rainy weather. The number nearly doubled compared to last week's 36 collisions on dry freeways.
