June 10, 2010
Los Angeles – The Los Angeles Service Authority for Freeway Emergencies (LA SAFE) has launched a new automated phone and Internet system designed to help commuters during traffic in Los Angeles, Orange and Ventura counties. The new system can also help motorists during accidents or storms.
Called 511, the new system will also provide travelers with updates on traffic, public transits and other related information. Its website, Go511.com also features traffic maps, information on bicycle routes, link to airports and taxi services and weather report.
Authorities said they plan to make the system accessible on mobile devices and in Spanish.
However in Los Angeles County, 800 COMMUTE will continue to operate on weekdays from 6:30 am to 7 pm.
