SUV ACCIDENT: 9-year-old Girl Dies, Six Others Injured in Family Van Accident
June 17, 2011
Los Angeles -- A nine-year-old daughter was killed and six other family members were injured after a SUV roll over accident in Arbuckle on Friday at 4:30 a.m.
Ofelia Castrejon-Reyes, the mother, was driving the family's Toyota mini-van on Interstate 5 when she lost control on the wheels. The vehicle swerved, hit the center divider, and rolled over several times, according to California Highway Patrol reports. Reports said Castrejon-Reyes and her husband, Adrian Rosales, sustained minor injuries.
Their nine-year-old daughter, Brisa Rosales, was pronounced dead at the accident scene.
The youngest brother, David Rosales, was ejected from the vehicle and was trapped beneath the SUV. He suffered serious burn injuries from the van's exhaust system. The other siblings, Elizabeth and Omar, sustained major injuries. Rescuers transported them to UC Davis Medical Center.
The eldest son, Adrian Rosales, was not hurt in the accident. Authorities are investigating whether tire blow out was a factor in the accident.
