RAILROAD ACCIDENT: 12-Year-Old Boy Killed in Train Accident in Central Fresno
October 5, 2010
Fresno – A fatal train accident has resulted in the death of a 12-year-old boy on his way to school in Central Fresno this morning.
The Fresno County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Daniel Madsen, a seventh-grade student at Wamona Middle School.
According to the police, Daniel was on his way to school with his 15-year-old sister and another girl when the two girls ran north of Fruit Avenue and tried to beat the incoming train.
The two girls made it safely across but Daniel was struck as he followed his sister.
Investigations showed that the crossing arms were down during the train accident and the conductor even sounded the train’s horn for warning.
The identities of the two girls were not released by authorities.
A crisis team was also sent by Fresno Unified School District to Wamona Middle School to deal about the concerns of the students and staff.
