VEHICLE CHAIN ACCIDENT: 1 Killed in Multiple Vehicle Accident on Highway 99

Modesto – A multiple vehicle accident on Highway 99 killed at least one person this afternoon.
The incident occurred at about 2:00 pm south of North Carpenter Road in Modesto and involved three vehicles including a big rig truck.
According to the CHP, the big rig truck jackknifed along the highway and struck a nearby pickup truck, crushing it in the process.
A third vehicle was also involved in the crash.
Only one fatality has been confirmed as of writing but there are reports that a second person may have been killed in the big rig accident as well.
The pile up has caused heavy traffic on both directions of the highway as crews work on clearing the road of debris.
The circumstances surrounding the crash are still under investigation.
